E.ON Energie - Assuming Our Responsibility for the Future

E.ON Energie and its subsidiaries are involved in a panoply of areas:

Our subsidiary E.ON Netz conducts environmentally friendly line route maintenance in its quest to be mindful of nature’s needs. They are kept using cattle and moorland sheep instead of chain saws. Thanks to these precautions, rare plants have returned to these areas.

Moreover, E.ON Netz plays a pioneering role in the field of waste management: In 2003, 98.5% of processed waste was recycled, leaving a mere 1.5% for disposal. E.ON Netz teamed up with the other E.ON Energie companies to create and introduce a computer program capable of further optimizing the system and tracking waste from inception to disposal.

The use of alternative fuels also makes a significant contribution to lower CO2 levels, doubling as an environmentally compatible way of disposing of waste. E.ON Kraftwerke pioneers this field.  We make use of sewage sludge, mature stand, pulp sludge and-as of late-biogenic waste such as animal meal to generate power at several sites.

The proliferation of hydroelectric power has given birth to new habitats for flora and fauna. Power plant reservoirs represent about a third of Germany's bird sanctuaries. Another ecological feature is the power stations' cleaning screens. Every year, E.ON Wasserkraft uses these installations to dispose of thousands of tons of drift matter. Many additional examples can be found at our subsidiaries and regional power utilities.
