Energy performance certificates for buildings - efficiency pays off
In line with the EU Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings, energy performance certificates will soon become mandatory for both the construction as well as the rental and sale of buildings in Germany as well. This applies to both residential as well as office and service buildings.
These measures are designed to make energy consumption transparent and provide an incentive for refurbishing the energy systems installed in buildings. The objective is to reduce power consumption and CO2 emissions.
The certificates thus act as a seal of quality for the energy efficiency of buildings.
Energy performance certificates disclose the amount of energy consumed per square meter per year. In addition, they include detailed information and recommendations for modernization, for example relating to heat insulation or the heating system.
Once the 2006 Energy Conservation Directive takes effect (which is anticipated to happen as of January 1, 2007), E.ON will team up with well-qualified market partners to help its customers obtain energy certificates.
