Artists from Budapest

The City Hall Gallery on Munich´s Marienplatz will be hosting the "7 Artists from Budapest" exhibition on the occasion of the annual Open Art event. E.ON Energie, E.ON Bayern and E.ON Hungária will be supporting the event within the scope of the Hungarian Culture Year in cooperation with the Hungarian Consulate.

Since Germans only rarely get the opportunity to see contemporary art from Hungary, they are not very familiar with it. Unlike musicians, authors, actors and movie directors, Hungarian artists are seldom showcased between major international events such as EUROPA, EUROPA, which took place in 1994.

Only recently have galleries and artists started drawing open-minded collectors as well as the keen interest of business, banks and industry, which opens the door to new opportunities, thanks to the financial resources provided.

We are thus exceptionally pleased to be able to provide active support to the exhibition project. Instead of choosing a topic, the trustees looked for the leading middle generation art celebrities capable representing Budapest’s current art scene as draftsmen, sculptors, moviemakers, photographers, painters and concept artists.

The City Hall Gallery is now showcasing works of Emese Benczúr, Attila Csörgo, Pál Gerber, Erik Mátrai, Dezso Szabó, Kamilla Szij, and Attila Szucs. In addition, a small catalogue was printed to inform the public about the artists and their oeuvres, which are deserving of great attention. Budapest’s avant-garde is full of energy and surprises, waiting impatiently to be discovered and given a chance.
