Andreas Horlitz - Wall of Mirrors, a Light Installation

In 2005 our new Munich headquarters entered its final phase of construction for the time being. Designed and erected by the Munich architect studio Adam, the building´s highlights are phenomenal clarity and austere shapes - characteristics reflected in the wall of mirrors created by Andreas Horlitz for the new building in the company casino.

Employees and casino guests now have the opportunity to view Horlitz´s installation first-hand. One physically experiences the light when walking on the relatively narrow staircase. This is how the wall opens up visually. Various perspectives unfold from the dining area, depending on the spectator´s vantage point and viewing angle, since parts of the wall may be hidden. The partially mirrored surfaces reflect spatial, light and color elements as well as Casino guests, plunging them into immediate contact and dialogue with the work of art.

Light symbolizes energy and life. The casino´s ambient lighting changes over the course of the year, be it naturally or artificially.
The light installations constantly radiate light, with the fluctuation in ambient lighting robbing it of its static appearance, making it a palpable experience to the senses as it goes through its changes. Expansive, clearly accentuated wall sections are turned into luminous surfaces, displaying abstract image structures on glass using a color print and mirroring technique.

In line with his series of "Palimpest" oeuvres, abstract motifs from encyclopedia and scientific publications will form the imagery’s conceptual basis. Themes draw from major fields of research such as genetic engineering, astronomy, psychology and biology. These pictures then overlap and overlay each other to simulate our perception of the most diverse impressions virtually simultaneously.
