Thermal power stations running on solar energy represent a forward-looking method of making use of the power of the sun. They produce steam from solar power, which can then be used to generate electricity using conventional techniques.

This enables one to conserve fossil fuels in conventional power stations and produce regenerative power at reasonable cost.

E.ON Energie joined forces with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems and the German Aerospace Center in a project to test the use of this new system in combination with conventional power stations.
