Innovative Approaches in the Field of Biogas

Biogas-fired plants are an interesting option, as evidenced by a great number of projects in the past. Thanks to the commitment it has shown to the use of biomass and biogas, operating and holding stakes in more than 30 biomass thermal power stations and over 80 self-operated biogas-fired plants, E.ON Energie is one of the major champions of generating electricity using this fuel.

Moreover, numerous studies and tests have been carried out in this field. Efficiency also takes center stage regarding the use of biogas. The feasibility of such endeavors has been proven by a project implemented by E.ON Sverige in Sweden.

Biogas Instead of Natural Gas: Our Affiliate E.ON Sverige Shows How It's Done

Sweden's Laholm plant feeds 18,000 megawatt hours of biogas into the gas grid every year. Biogas has been covering 25 percent of demand in the region since 2001. As a result, annual CO2 emissions have been reduced by approximately 3,700 metric tons. The biogas facility mainly runs on organic industrial and residential waste, producing fertilizer for agricultural purposes as a by-product.
