Natural Resources - Primary Sources of Energy
Conventional thermal power stations form the basis of our power production activities. The main primary energy sources used are hard coal and lignite, alongside gas, oil and biomass. All of the power plants functions are based on the same principle:
water is heated in a steam generator via a combustion process. The resultant steam is subjected to very high pressure and used to drive the turbines, which are coupled to power generators. Then the steam is condensed back to water and recirculated to the steam generator. This is how, year in, year out, our subsidiary E.ON Kraftwerke generates enough electricity to cover the consumption of approximately 12.5 million three-person households.
