Irsching - Power Plant
Engineering's Technical Terra Incognita
Irsching is slated to serve as the center of our subsidiary E.ON Kraftwerke´s European combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) activities.
Two highly efficient CCGT plants have been planned for this site: Irsching 4 and Irsching 5.
Rated at an initial 340 megawatts (MW) and scheduled for an increase to 530 MW, Irsching will be home to the world´s largest, highest-output gas turbine. It will be capable of catering to the energy needs of a population the size of a city such as Hamburg.
The Irsching 5 project is being realized in collaboration with the regional utilities N-ERGIE (Nuremberg) and Mainova (Frankfurt am Main).
The CCGT facility is scheduled for commissioning in 2008, with a net installed capacity of 820 MW. It will have an efficiency of over 58%. On successful conclusion of the pilot run, Irsching 4 will be upgraded to a 530 MW CCGT plant.
