Generation Perspectives

The E.ON Group currently has installed power station output of almost 23,600 megawatts in Germany. We thus have one of the broadest and most balanced generation portfolios in our sector. At the end of 2010, of the total generating capacity in Germany 22 per cent was accounted for by oil and natural gas, 30 per cent by coal, 36 per cent by nuclear energy, 9 per cent by hydro-electricity and 3 per cent by wind energy and other renewable energies, such as solar energy and bio-energy.

Current key technologies relate firstly, to the energy efficiency of fossil-fuel power stations and the further testing of CCS technologies and secondly, to the increasing development of renewable energies and accompanying storage technologies.
