Virtual Power Plant
This September, as part of E.ON's competition initiative, E.ON Sales & Trading GmbH will launch a product aimed at making power purchasing more flexible. Dubbed "Virtual Power Plant," the product will afford companies the opportunity to buy electricity from a virtual power station.
E.ON Sales & Trading will auction off a total of 250 megawatts in capacity. Thanks to the fair and transparent underlying procedure, the new product is an ideal supplement to a diversified procurement portfolio. It provides the customer with more latitude than currently tradable standard products. Virtual Power Plant allows customers to act as power plant operators, without having to bear the risks inherent in running a brick-and-mortar power station.
Buyers and sellers, i.e. industrial enterprises, regional and municipal power utilities and traders, can register for the September auction starting on June 6, 2007. Further auctions will be offered in subsequent years, depending on the product's success on the market.
