E.ON Netz promotes cross - border power trading

E.ON Netz will increase transmission capacity available on the interconnectors at the borders to Denmark, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands by a total of more than 1,000 megawatts (MW) before the end of 2007.

Higher cross-border transmission capacities facilitate power trading with neighboring countries and thus benefit all European consumers. In doing so, we are strengthening the basis conducive to increasing competition on the European power market.

The results of preparatory processes, some of which lasted several years, are as follows:

  • Transmission capacity at the Danish-German border was increased by 300 MW for imports to Germany and by 150 MW for exports from Germany as of February 1, 2007.

  • As of April 1, 2007, we will make an additional 200 MW available for trading to and from the Czech Republic.

  • By October 2007, we will increase transmission capacities at the border between Germany and the Netherlands by up to 550 MW.

All market participants will have transparent and non-discriminatory access to the additional 1,000 MW in capacity, as is the case for all existing capacities. It is partially thanks to E.ON Netz GmbH's efforts to expand the high-voltage grid in Northern Germany that we can increase available transmission capacities.

E.ON Netz supports E.ON's competition initiative by improving cross-border power transmission capacities.
